Android Marshmallow – The best features it offers

By Purvi Talati

Google's latest version of Android 'Marshmallow' will going to make Android able to do a lot more improvements for you and it will be widely available in next week.

Google Marshmallow Features

These are the features which we're most excited for in the new release of Android.

Google Now on Tap – 'Contextual Assistance'

The most standout feature of Marshmallow is that shows extra information on almost anything instantly. When inside an app, you press and hold the home button. Google Now on Tap reads the screen and gives information for anything interesting like name of a celebrity or a location of movie details in the form of a pop up window at the bottom of the screen.

Doze

Android 6.0 will be concerned with battery life. Using a combination of hardware sensors and software tweaks, phones and tablets running Marshmallow will know when they've been sitting idle for a period of time, and they will disable some background processes to increase battery life with giving notifications.

App Permissions

Now you can now give access to features and deny access to storage to a particular app. With this update, when you open an app, there will a pop-up asking if you want to give access to a particular feature just like how you grant access to GPS inside Maps.

Fingerprint Support

With Marshmallow, Google is adding native support for fingerprint sensors. This will allow users to unlock their phone, make payments with Android Pay and even validate purchases from Google Play.

USB Type-C

The USB Type-C is basically a reversible USB format that can be used to charge devices and transfer data. Google claims that with this, you can charge twice as quickly as Apple.

Improved cut, copy, and paste

Rather than making you jump up to the top of the screen to find the cut, copy, and paste buttons, Marshmallow will float the options directly above the text you've selected.

Chrome works inside other apps

With a feature called Chrome Custom Tabs, Marshmallow will allow apps to preload certain web content before sending you over to an in-app Chrome tab.

App Backup and Restore

With Marshmallow, When an Android 6.0 device is idle and connected to Wi-Fi, it will automatically backup app data and settings to Google Drive behind the scenes. If you ever switch to a new one phone, you'll be able to quickly and easily restore all of your apps as they were previously.

From Nexus to Chromecast and finally to Pixel C, these updates are more than the sum of their parts – they unite great apps with devices that are designed to support them. Checkout our portfolio and jumpstart your Android App development with us.
